WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION
Strategies
- Increase coverage of drinking water and sewerage.
- Increase the overall efficiency of drinking water distribution systems.
- Significantly improve wastewater treatment, promote its use and exchange.
Goals for 2012
- Increase drinking water coverage to 92 percent (97 percent in urban zones and 76 percent in rural zones).
- Increase sewerage coverage to 88 percent (96 percent in urban zones and 63 percent in rural zones).
- Increase by 8 percentile points the overall efficiency level of 80 operators in locations of over 20 thousand inhabitants.
- Increase wastewater treatment to at least 60 percent of water collected.
IRRIGATION AND FLOOD CONTROL
Strategies
- Modernize irrigation infrastructure and promote the use of technology in agricultural land, in coordination with users and local authorities.
- Expand the irrigated and rainfed land in areas with water availability, prior territorial zoning.
- Maintain, conserve and expand hydraulic infrastructure to protect population centers and productive areas.
Goals for 2012
- Modernize and promote the use of technology in 1.2 million hectares of agricultural irrigatable land.
- Incorporate 160 thousand new hectares of irrigatable and rainfed land.
- Increase the flood-risk protected zone to 150 thousand hectares of agricultural productive area. This zone will also comprehend 6 million inhabitants.
